My roll in the Emergency room is either triage nurse or floor nurse. As a triage nurse it is my responsibility to obtain vitals on my patients as well as find out what brought the patient to the emergency room. Then I will assign an acuity to the patient beaded on the symptoms I am told and observed. As a nurse on the floor we are assigned 3 rooms to manage. We are responsible for medication administration, small procedures, insertion of IVs, nursing assessments, collaboration with physicians, and traumas that come into the emergency department. As a level 1 trauma center we as nurses have the responsibility of assisting in those as well. In the emergency department it is ever changing and you always have to be able to think critically to provide the best care for your patients.

As a nurse my role was providing care for preterm babies through the age of 2 years old. In the NICU its not only vital to take care of the patient but to also help support the family that is with the patient. I have been trained in infant blood sugars, trach cleaning/changing, placement of NG tubes, neonatal assessments and feedings, administration of medications, IV starts, comfort positioning, how to bag a baby in respiratory distress and many more skills to help the newborn thrive once born. I have developed stronger critical thinking skills due to the severity of sick babies that are being taken care of daily here at Akron Childrens NICU.

Being a patient care assistant at Akron Childrens Hospital has been a great experience so far. I love interacting with the children population and I know for sure working with kids is what I was meant to do. As a PCA my main purpose is to sit with 1:1 patients. This kids range from eating disorders, ingestions, abuse cases, and kids that are on the inpatient physch floor. I sit with these patients to provide safety to them and the staff. I also take the patients vitals, light housekeeping of the patients room, basic lab work, and offer my companionship.
Nursing Assistant
Akron City Hospital
Akron, OH
03.2018 - 04.2020
As a nursing assistant, I had to take care of a team of patients that were assigned to me that day. I would assist my patients in daily activities that they needed help with such as helping them bathe, ambulating patients that needed it, oral care, light housekeeping of their room, vitals, blood sugars, answering call lights, etc. When there was down time on the unit I would stock patient rooms, clean the break room, stock the unit kitchens and clean the unit. I was also responsible for light charting on the patients that I was assigned that day.
