Amanda Nall

My goal is to build a career as an early childhood special education teacher by utilizing my passion to instill knowledge and practical life and social skills while forming lasting connections with my students.

The majority of my background experience has centered around children. I was a preschool teacher for 3 years at First Mckinney and was a PE Aide at McGowen Elementary for 2 years. I started in October 2022 as a substitute exclusively at Lawson Early Childhood and began working every day after that. I was asked to be a long-term sub aide in a low ratio class in November where I stayed for about 3 weeks until they asked if I would consider taking over for the lead teacher in another ECSE classroom. Although I had no real experience with special education, I felt the pull to accept the challenge and I haven't looked back since. I jumped in with both feet immediately.

The amount of knowledge and on-the-job training I have learned for this exact position is more than I could even put into words. I never considered special education in the past but, as I tell people now, I think special education found ME. I have bonded with my students and know their personalities, their triggers, their likes and dislikes, their learning styles and their individual strengths and weaknesses. I have formed relationships with their parents and also my team members. I am part of the team and have been welcomed with open arms and so much support.

I am confident in my abilities as a leader, an assistant, and a practical, rational and logical thinker, as well as in my ability to adapt to any situation. I am level-headed, reliable, efficient, organized, competent, creative, and energetic. I am working very hard to get my alternative certification finished before summer in my spare time. As a single mom with 2 teenage boys in many extracurricular activities, "spare time" is few and far between. But my goal is to get certified as quickly as possible.
