My position as an Air Quality Scientist encompassed 2 programs with the WVDEP Air Quality Laboratory:
1) I provided technical assistance for the PM2.5 (Particulate Matter) Weigh Room Program in accordance with EPA rules, grant commitments, guidance, QAPP (Quality Assurance Project Plan) and SOP (Standard Operating Procedure). My duties included: preparation of COC's (Chains of Custody), weighing, shipping, and receiving filters. In addition, completing approximately 50% of workload on the PM2.5 lab schedule, ensured program operation on days co-worker was off-site, troubleshoot instrumentation and computer equipment, and maintaining logbooks and records.
2) I provided technical assistance for the Air Toxics Metal Program in accordance with EPA rules, grant commitments, guidance, QAPP and SOP. My duties included: timely and independent analysis of at least four sites per quarter, including DC NATTS (National Air Toxic Trends Site) within 60 days of receipt at lab, troubleshoot instrumentation and computer equipment, maintaining logbooks and records; receiving sample shipments, and preparation of standards and solution.
3) Other work included preparation of Butanol Calibration Standards for WVDEP Main Office.
4) I served as the Building and Laboratory Safety Coordinator including coordinating all safety activities at the lab, maintained Eye Wash Station and AED equipment, and conducted quarterly lab safety meetings. I was the liaison between DEP Main Office Safety and Lab Safety and liaison between the WVDA and Lab Safety.
5) I functioned as peer reviewer of coo-workers QAPP's and SOP's.
