  • Setup winder by moving blades to cut paper to the right size, making sure chuck is tight. Checking the trim chute for blockage and making sure the back stand moves correctly. Remove reel from pope reel and position it in winding machine, using the overhead power crane. Pull the tail end of covering sheet through winder roles and secures sheet to empty core using tape. Start machine and regulates speed of winder to maintain even winding. Adjusts tension rolls on machine and sets yardage counter. Examines material for pinholes. Stops machine when there is a break or holes to splice it or when it reaches roll indicating size. Cut wet paper out and splice it. Cut and tapes end of sheet to prevent unwinding and remove full role from machine. May stop machine during winding and cut out designated defective sections of reel. Assist in processing the finish role. Performed duties of other jobs in the paper mill line of progression and helping out my crew.
