Occupational Therapy Observation Hours

  • A Therapy Connection 07/13/2021 - 08/04/2021 : I had the opportunity to follow and observe a pediatric occupational therapist apply interventions, interact with her patients and their families, and as well showing me how she manages time on the job. Each time I would observe this pediatric occupational therapist, I would take notes on what I was observing and had the opportunity to ask any questions. I learned different treatment plans for each of her patients, and explained the reasoning behind each treatment plan. I was able to expand my knowledge of occupational therapy in a pediatric setting.
  • One Rehab 04/04/2024 - 05/29/2024 : I had the opportunity to follow and observe an occupational therapist in a outpatient setting, that focused on giving her patients different exercises to help recover from various physical injuries and also medical procedures. I also had the opportunity to learn about her different treatment plans, while having the goal for her patients to achieve independence in their lives. Throughout my time here I took notes about the different treatments and exercises, got to meet her patients and hear their stories, and got to see the progress they would make from beginning to the end.
  • Presbyterian Village North; 04/02/2024 - 06/04/2024 : I had the opportunity to follow and observe a occupational therapist in a retirement community, that worked with seniors who were in independent living. He focused on supporting assisted living residents with their quality of life. I was able to meet the patients and see them improve on their balance, strength, range of motion, and mobility. I also learned about the importance of teamwork with working with different healthcare professions due to having the same goal to help the patient.
  • Integrative Pediatric Therapy; 04/06/2024 - 07/13/2024 : I had the opportunity to follow and observe a pediatric occupational therapist at a private independent practice that focuses on promoting maximal functional ability and quality of life for all the children, adolescents, and young adults. I gained more knowledge with sensory integration therapy, and got to see how it can improve a child’s ability to use sensory information while participating in a variety of sensory integration therapy activities. This would take place in their large gym which allows children to experience movement using their total body senses to play while learning.
