- Food Service Worker at the Rachel Carson College dining hall at UCSC. I perform several functions across 5 different stations.
- 1. Salad Station: Includes prep work and refilling as needed. Cutting fresh fruit to put into hotel pans(Watermelon, Honeydew Melon, Cantaloupe, Pineapple, Strawberries). Making pre made salads, we have 7 different types. Cutting, washing and prepping vegetables to be able to place on at the salad bar. (Cucumbers, lettuce, peppers, carrots, mushrooms). This is a self serve station that students use to make their own salads. Cleaning and closing station at the end of service.
- 2. Bev/Des Station: Prepping desserts for the dessert station. We receive sheet pans of various desserts. (Brownies, pies, loafs, etc). Prepping spreads for breads and bagels. Restocking cups, refilling soda and changing CO2 tanks when needed. Cleaning and closing station at the end of service.
- 3. Pizza Station: Prepping pizza dough and ingredients according to what pizza they are serving that day. Involves cutting different types of meats and vegetables according to the pizza. Using stone hearth oven to cook pizza and cut it for service. Cleaning and breaking down station at end of service.
- 4. Del Station: Prepping meats and cheese along with other ingredients to be placed at the deli station. Making specialty spreads like chipotle mayo and other things. This is a self serve station so students can make their own sandwich. Cleaning and closing station at the end of service
- 5. Dish Room: Dishes return on a conveyor and are brought back from the cooks in the kitchen. We use efficient process including the 3 step soak, rinse, and wash to ensure all dishes are cleaned in a timely manner. Cleaning and closing station which includes breaking down the dishwasher at the end of service.
- This job also includes customer service as needed. This includes answering students questions and providing specific product such as Gluten Free or Vegan products when asked. At times, we will be asked to serve food at the line. The line is where students can get their entrees and then proceed to get other food throughout the dining hall stations.
