  • Company Overview: Over The Road long haul truck driver. Throughout most of our employment here, my wife and I team drove semi. We pulled refrigerated trailers, doubles and hazmat. I had trained up my wife right out of truck driving school. The company had me train another driver as well. Daily tasks included inspecting the equipment for safety, making sure the log books were accurate and certified and driving 500 to 600 miles in a shift. We also worked with dispatch to choose the safest route with weather considerations kept in mind. We purchased our semi through a lease purchase program while driving for this company which put us in the position of operating as an owner/operator.

  • Company Overview: Primarily I drove the shuttle runs from St. George, Utah to Las Vegas, Nevada. On occasion I drove from St. George to Salt Lake City. Inspected my vehicle daily for maintenance needs, then picked up and drove my passengers to their destinations. When needed, I have driven the various buses in the fleet on the shuttle runs or for chartered groups. I would also be called upon to help train new drivers for their Class B CDL as well as give orientation to new hires.

Introduction

Even though I have made most of my living from my driving career, I’ve had a sincere interest in the aviation field since I was a child. Before I had even hit my teenage years, I had read up on everything I could find on flight and aviation that was in print in the existing encyclopedias. As a young teenager in Boy Scouts, one of my first merits badges was the Aviation Merit Badge. Earning that badge required learning the FAA phonetic alphabet, most of which I remember to this day. Through observation and experience I have realized that I have a good mind for logistics. I have reached the point in my life where it’s time for a change from driving over the road. I feel that I will be a good fit at SkyWest Airlines and an asset to the OCC. Regardless of any job that I have worked, I have always received praise for my customer service skills.
