I am as much a teacher as a student: I love to learn and believe that curiosity and creativity are the foundation for success in school. This is not a prescribed skill or taught way. It is individualized and the role of the teacher is to help, support, and lead the student to know themselves as a learner. My own children, now 15 and 13 are the best examples of who I am as a teacher. They are at the top of their class academically and love going to school. They take leadership roles naturally and think beyond themselves both empathetically and globally. Reading has been a significant part of their lives since the moment they were born. As they grew, skills of writing, math, science, history, philosophy, engineering and the arts came into the picture. Life was and remains their classroom. A place to connect, ask questions, pursue dreams and aspirations, work hard, learn about themselves and grow. Because of them I will be that much better of a teacher today for they both learn differently, have different interests and skills, and meet the same goals through different pathways. I believe we are all born into whatever we are in this life. We all have strengths and weaknesses and we all have the ability to grow from that platform. Education is the key and one that should be offered to all in a manner that invites, includes, exposes and fosters healthy growth and development. I am a teacher who not only knows curriculum, standards and assessments but also can create an environment for all of my students that assists them in growing from where they are at in life. I have worked in both prestigious and impoverished schools. I have worked in schools where English was not the primary language and schools where basic needs were the focus of the curriculum. My ability to adapt, design and lead my students and their curriculum to meet a diverse range of needs supports me in any teaching environment. My heartfelt energy is both contagious and inspiring. It is the platform from which all of my teaching stems.
Enhanced classroom engagement through the use of interactive teaching methods, such as group projects and hands-on activities.
