Clearance Delivery:

  • Obtains, posts, updates and relays ATC clearances per FAAO 7110.65 series and SCT/NZY LOA

Local Control (CTO)

  • Formulates and issues clearances and control instructions to ensure separation between aircraft and between aircraft and vehicles operating under the jurisdiction of the tower
  • Coordinates with appropriate operator positions and other facilities
  • Provides flight assistance service to aircraft
  • Operates airport lighting, lighting systems and visual landing aids
  • Provides initial notification and dispatch of emergency personnel and equipment for aircraft emergencies and mishaps.

  • Ensures the daily traffic count is completed and forwarded to the Tower Chief.

Facility Watch Supervisor (Special Category):

  • Ensures an equipment checklist is performed at the beginning of each watch and saved on the ATC Shared Drive
  • Refers all noise complaints to the ODO
  • Notifies the Branch Chief/LCPO about any facility type problems such as plumbing, elevator, electrical power to the building, etc
  • For outages that occur after office hours, notify the ODO
  • Ensures traffic count is conducted at close of each business day utilizing the traffic count form
  • Notifies GEMD, SCT, and SAN of all scheduled field closures
  • Monitor controllers' fitness for duty
  • Ensure all controllers on duty, regardless of rank, conduct themselves in a professional manner in the performance of their duties
  • Refer civilian media personnel to the Public Affairs Office
  • Notifies the ODO for any unauthorized airborne activity in the airspace, such as kites, balloons, para-sails etc
  • Notifies the ODO of any unauthorized vehicles on the airfield
  • Notifies the LCPO and Tower Branch Chief when the airfield is out of category
  • Receives a detailed brief from the FWS on duty and brief the oncoming crew of any pertinent information.

Operations Duty Officer

  • Initial point of contact for support requests, noise complaints, flight line physical security after normal work hours, and emergency actions until relieved by a proper authority.
