As a host and food runner, a lot of the mechanics of a smooth running restaurant run through me. We have to turn over tables as fast as we can in order to make sure the next guest is able to enjoy a meal. This is especially crucial in high pressure moments like busy days where there is a waitlist, line out the door, and many demanding customers, some with reservations and some without. Either way, servers depend on me to bring them customers, get their tables cleaned up for the next customers, and get the food to their customers tables when their hands are too full. Working a restaurant job is not the only place where these skills come in handy. I have also worked in childcare for four years where similar skills are needed. I've worked with kids from 3 months old to 8th grade in San Francisco, where I am originally from. These jobs require a lot of patience and taking charge of groups as well as good communication between staff members to make sure every child is accounted for.
