The Lifesaving Award is presented to an officer when "In a non-combative situation, an officer performs in such a manner that it appears, after investigation, that the officer was directly responsible for preventing death from occurring to the victim. Death appeared to be imminent and said officer's actions prevented the death from occurring."
On October 5th, 2025, Park Police units were dispatched to the train tracks on Iona Island near Bear Mountain State Park for reports of of a Train V. Pedestrian. The victim was located approximately half of a mile South of the Island on the train tracks surrounded by water on both sides. The victim had suffered a traumatic amputation to the left arm with significant uncontrolled bleeding. I responded to the scene by utilizing a division UTV which allowed me to efficiently traverse the narrow landscape and assist an officer with placing a tourniquet on the victim. With assistance from an officer on scene, the victim was loaded into the UTV and driven to an ambulance that was staged nearby. My quick thinking and coordinated response enabled a timely extraction of the victim to awaiting medical personnel. My leadership ensured an organized and effective response under highly stressful and time sensitive conditions. My efforts exemplified professionalism, courage, an dedication to duty. I played a crucial and indispensable role in saving a life under extremely challenging circumstances.
