As an acting Supervisor Distribution operations (SDO) in Automation I am responsible for processing first class and standard mail for delivery the following business day. I routinely review mail staged on the floors and staging lanes to achieve this task. Once the mail volume has been captured, I assign the employees to the Delivery Barcode Sorter (DBCS) machines to run the various sort plans of the correlated city zones. Mail is containerized and placed in equipment for dispatch.Placards are generated placed on equipment.I call for a driver to dispatch mail to docks for carriers. By staying on track with run plan generator (RPG), assuring employees are running required thru -put or higher with no machine down time will guarantee mail to be processed and dispatched on time.
As a union steward, it is imperative to know the rules and contract for craft employees. It assures the employees are treated fairly on the work room floor. Learning these articles helped me understand employees rights. Article 8”elaborates on overtime. Knowledge of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) allows me to make sure I make the right decisions on when overtime is needed.I make sure I follow the overtime desired list to determine the seniority of the employees. If set 1 or set 2 is needed. Taking these steps assures everyone has the opportunity to get overtime. By sticking to the overtime list and following the seniority dates. I can avoid disagreements, anyone being skipped and grievances being filed on overtime or any other violations on employees rights.
As an Acting (SDO), I am tasked with ensuring the DBCS machines maintain the throughput of at least 36,000 mail pieces per hour. To do this, I monitor the DBCS machines to verify operator and mechanical error by reviewing the DBCS computer for errors. I then watch computer monitors to see if cause the throughput to decrease and discuss with the employee and/or maintenance for resolution.Knowing where to locate the data to identify issues is essential for the productive runs. My proactive approach solidifies the expeditious resolution and subsequent successful DBCS runs.
As an Acting (SDO), the daily run plan generator (RPG) must be followed to dispatch to customers by next business day with no errors. The goal is set by the plan to guarantee satisfaction for customer service, in addition to the employees’ work performance. I prepare for any changes that may occur by facilitating service talks and group discussions. I communicate mail production improvement while focusing on safety precautions and performance. If a situation arises beyond my capacity, I verbally notify the next upper manager in the chain of command before sending electronic documentation of pertinent information accompanied with written statements for potential investigations or grievances. By communicating with the employees and management, I can provide a safe and healthy working environment to all assigned in the supervised unit.
As an Acting (SDO), I review the employee schedule to see how many employees are expected to work. The schedule allows me to properly staff machines. I routinely inform employees of the attendance and time policy and the importance of attendance to assure a successful operation. I instruct the employees to maintain 4 good clock rings and arrive to work on time every day. I also convey the timely leave requests should be within 15 days of date is imperative to the operation. By explaining possible disciplinary actions if employees are not compliant with attendance policies has corrected many employees to improve their attendance.
As an Acting (SDO)I review the Mail History Tracking System (MHTS) to make sure all mail is accounted. Every machine has an expected number of mail volume that is required. By confirming mail goal is met. I verify the DBCS machines are started, completed on time and ready for dispatch. Every two hours, an update is sent to management to notify them of the machine status. If any issues are present, they are addressed and resolved. Using this system allows me access a write report.
As an Acting (SDO) in Automation, I am responsible for assuring mail is processed for following business day. I track sort plan zones for processing speed, mail volume, missing MMP and out of sort amongst other criteria using MHTS and MPEWatch. After the DBCS processes the mail, it’s in delivery point sequence (DPS) for house-to-house delivery. Mail is placed in all-purpose containers (APCs) for dispatch to carrier stations. Placards are generated placed on equipment to be dispatched for stations. My ability to know how to perform these skills allows me the ability to stay on track to meet daily RPG goals.
As an Acting (SDO) I demonstrate the ability to work well with others. I work with others as a team, gave direction to complete tasks/assignments as a team. I’ve worked closely with serval EAS and PSE employees demonstrating a positive attitude, eager to work and receive feedback based on my performance. As a Acting (SDO) at Curseen & Morris in Automation, I was able to work and lead by exercising courtesy, direction and self-control by completing daily tasks such as checking attendance, providing start/end times for the DBCS, assigning employees to machines, and proactively addressing concerns as they arise. As a result, this gives me pride in being a postal employee and being able to work with all employees.
As an Acting (SDO), I worked during the COVID pandemic that a huge effect on people. I had frequent service talks stressing the ordinances to keep everyone safe. I gave personal protection equipment (PPE) to employees; supported social distancing; and frequently washed my hands. By taking these necessary precautions it helped prevent the spread of the coronavirus. It also made people feel safe to come to work thereby allowing customers to continue to receive their mail.
