Perform various patrol duties such as door unlocks, escorts, and ensuring the privacy of the campus. Report maintenance issues and secure off areas that required attention. This program is an informational course and given in either English or Spanish. I participated in the Spanish course which was held every Wednesday from 6-9pm.
Completed the SRPD Community Police Academy, gaining comprehensive knowledge about the department and its diverse qualities.
The Spanish program enhanced my vocabulary and introduced me to law enforcement terminology through instruction by Spanish-speaking police officers. Additionally, I gained hands-on experience during a ride along and patrol boat excursion, enabling me to witness the daily operations of patrol officers. These experiences expanded my understanding of the types of calls they respond to and the areas they cover within the city. Lastly, I had the opportunity to meet various members of the police department, including Chief of Police, Lieutenant, and Patrol Officers. The program concluded with a Force Options Simulator session that simulated real-life stress-inducing scenarios encountered on the job. The academy culminated in a certificate presentation ceremony.

As mall security for Arden Fair Mall, I was responsible for the safety and security of the property, employees, and customers.
We detect and report suspicious, unsafe or criminal behavior which can be a threat to property, guests, clients, or employees on site.
Patrol on foot or mobile vehicle around the perimeter of the mall property. Lock and unlock doors, daily check of interior and exterior, provide customer service and build/improve/ and maintain effective relationships with employees and guests.
Pay close attention to surroundings as well as be responsible and effective with each call.

As a community service officer on campus we were taught to be the eyes and ears of the campus community and look over and protect the staff, students, and the campus.
I performed security checks around the campus and always maintained a visible presence. I learned how to work the radio and learned all the codes for different calls.
Different posts were assigned which included: patrols around campus, bike compounds (register bikes), ID checks, Resident Hall patrol, parking structure patrol, direct traffic during busy mornings, graveyard shifts, etc. CSO’s are also called to assist individuals on campus who need help with a jumpstart or a vehicle lockout.
We also promoted Sacramento State and spoke to first year or transfer students at orientation.
Established strong rapport with department officers, leading to opportunities for ride-alongs and a first-hand experience at the gun range.
This job taught me the skills for a future career in law enforcement.
Unpaid Internship in the Youth Academy

As an intern in the Youth Academy I had the opportunity to learn about the different branches of the Sheriff’s Department and the foundation of law enforcement.
Throughout the 6 months of the internship I attended lectures in which we learned about the varying tasks and procedures that are carried out by each department.
I learned about procedures such as the interrogation process, fingerprinting, court procedures, swat, search and rescue, etc. I also had the opportunity to take a self defense class and bootcamp course for our training.
Lastly, I participated in a mock trial in court which was the final step towards completing the program. This internship gave me the opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and showed me the different paths I could take in the future.
