As a Reading Specialist, I am responsible for supporting the development of strong literacy skills in all students by implementing targeted, research-based instruction. My role includes:

• Delivering small-group instruction tailored to meet individual student needs, with a focus on phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension strategies.
• Assessing student progress regularly using a variety of literacy assessments such as DIBELS, running records, and diagnostic screeners to inform instruction.
• Designing and adapting curriculum and lesson plans to address the diverse academic, linguistic, and cultural needs of all learners, including English language learners and students with IEPs or 504 plans.
• Providing specialized interventions for students with dyslexia and other reading difficulties, using structured literacy approaches grounded in the Science of Reading.
• Embedding social-emotional learning (SEL) into literacy instruction to promote student engagement, motivation, and ownership of their learning.
• Collaborating with classroom teachers, interventionists, and families to align instruction, share data, and support a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS).
• Participating in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in literacy instruction and intervention.

• Creating personalized reading goals aligned differentiated materials.
• Providing small group balanced literacy instruction that included comprehension strategies as well as explicit phonics instruction.
• Provided small group guided reading instruction for variety of genres and text structures.
• Tracking data to identify and close literacy gaps in grades 6-9.
• Provided whole group differentiated instruction on how to structure argumentative essays, narratives, letters, and poetry
• Provided grammar and vocabulary instruction.

• Built positive and productive relationships with teachers to drive improvements to reading programs.
• Wrote and delivered customized instruction to individual students and groups.
• Performed assessments and analyzed results to spot students in need of further help.
• Used program such as Read 180 to achieve dramatic results with students.

• Performing reading diagnostics to identify reading gaps.

• Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans to improve student learning experiences. Establish and maintain functional, fun, and safe learning atmosphere.
• Evaluate student's academic and personal growth by keeping appropriate records and administering formal and informal assessments.
• Communication with parents through conferences and other means to discuss their child's academic and personal progress.
• Connections and collaborations: creating authentic communicative relationships with students and staff.
• Help students to improve specific reading skills: letter naming, initial sounds, phoneme segmentation, comprehension strategies.

• Develop standard-based lesson plans, adapting curriculum to meet individual student needs by differentiating instruction.
