Staff Nurse in the Alternative Birth Care Unit. This unit was separate from the regular Labor/Delivery Unit and provided patients an environment similar to that of a free standing birth center while still in a hospital setting.

• Collaborated with physicians to quickly assess patients and deliver appropriate treatment while managing rapidly changing conditions.
• Managed care from admission to discharge, including all aspects of intrapartum, postpartum and normal newborn care.
• Lactation assistance.
• Intensive education for patient and families to help make the transition from hospital to home, especially since typical length of stay was 24 hours.
• Floated as needed to the Labor/Delivery Unit, Postpartum Unit, Newborn Nursery and High Risk Antepartum Unit.
