In about a month, I am going to start what is supposed to be my last semester at Ventura College. I have been offered "provisional acceptance" to California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) . This means that I have been accepted to transfer to CSUCI for the Fall 2025 semester on the condition that I obtain my Associate of Arts in Communication Studies for Transfer from Ventura College by May 2025. I will be taking 21 credits my final semester at Ventura College, most of which relate to my major. Some of these classes include mass communication, interpersonal communication, and intercultural communication.
The bachelors program I have been given provisional acceptance to is Organizational Communication Studies. The goal of this program is to teach students the fundamentals of communication in organizational settings in preparation for jobs that require effective communication, administrative, professional, and organizational skills. Some of these jobs include human resources, marketing, and public relations.
I would like to make a career in human resources and use my education to help me obtain employment in that field. However, aside from a bachelors degree in a related field, most employers are looking for candidates with clerical, administrative, and/or experience in human resources. Internships at this stage in my academic career will really help me stand out from other applicants, and will improve my chances of finding employment in human resources or a related field. Any experience with clerical work such as filing records, correspondence, data entry, and any other work related to office and administrative settings would benefit me. In addition to these general skills, knowledge of processes and procedures specific to HR would also benefit me. I am always eager to learn new skills and to work with people who I can look up to and learn from.
