In February 2016 while working as a security officer for Providence Health and Security Services on foot patrol, I came across a distraught woman on the fourth-story ledge of a parking structure. I called in the incident to security dispatch, informing them of the situation, who immediately notified the Washington County 911. As I spoke with the woman to keep her calm, I managed to get close enough to reach over the ledge and grab her, pulling her back to safety. For this action, I received the life-saving award.
In August 2020, while I was driving with my son in Gladstone over the I-205 overpass entering Gladstone, I noticed a young man had climbed over the guard rail and was making his way towards the middle of the freeway on the overpass. I stopped my car and instructed my son to call 911 and tell them our location and what was happening. I exited my vehicle and climbed over the railing, and made my way to the young man and grabbed him and told him that no matter what he is going through, there is another way. After a few seconds of discussion, we both made our way back over the railing and were met by the Gladstone police, who took over the scene. Two weeks later, I received an appreciation letter and a certificate of merit.
In July 1997 I successfully earned my Eagle Scout award through the Boy Scouts of America.
