Summary

My family is an immigrant family from the United States. My mom left Vietnam for a better life for my sisters and me, and she gave up everything. I learned the value of service from her selflessness and the generosity of my grandparents toward others less fortunate. I originally never considered myself to be a nurse. But I came to appreciate tending to people after helping at a hospital. Patients developed into personal relationships rather than only cases. That encounter set me on a road of purpose.
Outside of school and hospital volunteering, I also work part-time at a nail salon on weekends. There, I’ve learned how to provide personal care, listen attentively, and build trust with clients. It has made clear to me how crucial comfort and compassion are in any form of care facility, including a salon chair or a hospital room. My communication, patience, and attention to detail, all of which I know will help me become a caring and successful nurse, have improved by this work. To me, nursing is a calling to serve with sensitivity and respect, not only a job.
