At 29 years old, I have developed into a ceramic artist and craftsman who enjoys exploring different ceramic styles. During my childhood in Galveston, Texas, 1 began working in ceramics at the age of 9 with an art teacher in the city. 1 was taken under his wing, and he taught me everything I needed to know about ceramic art as well as other art mediums. While attending Lamarque High school, 1 received my first award for an eight-inch tall, wide bodied ceramic pot.
In 2014, 1 enrolled as a music major at Texas Southern University with a minor in art. After touring the Biggers Art Center, and then taking a ceramics class from Professor Jesse Sifuentes, I changed my major to art. During my undergraduate years at TSU, Professor Sifuentes became a mentor to me both in the studio and in life. One of my best memories was a recent weekend when the two of us went on a Houston "Clay Crawl" and visited Foelber Pottery Gallery and Studio, Third Coast Clay, and McCheek's Studio. it Was wonderful to meet and connect with other ceramic artists in the Houston community.
After graduation, I plan to work towards developing my teaching skill with the goal of opening a ceramics space for teaching and exhibiting works in my hometown of Galveston. After a year, I will pursue my MFA degree with a concentration in ceramics, This summer, 1 willwork on several ceramic projects as a Sarah A. Trotty Cultural Intern, 1 truly look forward in the future to traveling and studying the ceramic works of traditional artists in both Japan and West Africa,
