Accomplishments

  • Chosen as a Link Crew Leader in high school by teacher nomination for being a kind, helpful, and positive example for others. Link Leaders are students who were recognized and recommended for their exceptional skills by a Teacher or Peer. They prepare for, help, and guide new Freshman by having regular meetings with assigned groups, keeping in contact, and other similar needs.
  • Was a member of the Cultural Youth Organization called 'Our Voices'. Helped plan and perform in events for things like Juneteenth, and attended weekly meetings. At the events I read my own poetry/speeches, presented art for sale, participated in group songs and dance, helped with makeup, hair, and wardrobe, and anything else when needed.
  • Participated in a 3-week program by Great River Shakespeare Festival called 'Shakespeare for Young Designers' where we got to explore scenic design, costume design, and production strategies in the context of Shakespearean text. Students learn from and work alongside professionals to explore and develop their own approach to storytelling through design. I personally designed and drew outfits for the characters, tying into my own theme of the elements (fire, water, etc.) mixed with business casual; as well as a hand-made collage board to accompany it when showcasing.
  • Was excepted into the AVID college program in 9th grade and continued as a member until the middle of 11th grade.
