Summary

Bartending, at its core, has never really been about making drinks. Anyone in the world can learn to make cocktails, pour a glass of beer, or tell you about the range of sugar content in red wines. While it's undeniable that every bartender needs a skill set to work behind a bar efficiently, most veterans in the industry will tell you that the real impact of the job is being there for the community you serve. Every night I walk into work with the expectation to see and catch up with familiar clients that come in for a drink and ultimately, a conversation. That's what keeps me in this industry, and why I'm passionate about working as hard as I can to make sure that when a person comes into a place I work for a cocktail, they can leave with a pleasant experience, memory, and a desire to come back.

  • The Otheroom is a small, intimate date and lounge bar in Manhattan's West Village. Started in 1997, the Otheroom was known historically for its extensive craft beer and wine list.
  • As the lead bartender, I've been in charge of cycling our cocktail menu, with the guidance of our cocktail program manager.
  • I'm also responsible for placing orders to keep our beer and wine list fresh.
  • The Otheroom is where I've sharpened my skill set as a mixologist, has broadened my conceptual knowledge about beer and wine types, and has forced me to be able to think on my feet, and problem-solve effectively in rushes and intense situations.
  • One bartender on shift per night. Consistently brought in 5 to 7 thousand dollars in sales on a nightly basis.
  • Developed seasonal cocktail menus, enhancing guest experience and increasing repeat visits.
