Throughout the 28 years working with high risk youth and adults with challenges in special education, mental health, social and school disconnections, economic challenges etc, both male and female, many of whom have successfully made great changes in their lives, I am very grateful for being a part of many individuals that contributed to the well being of those who have struggled in life.
When I first started this line of work in 1994, I was a Youth Intervention Specialists assigned to Lincoln High School in San Jose, while walking through the hallways assessing the climate of the school, I noticed a small envelope looking paper on the floor about one inch in length. In those days it was common for illegal drugs to be packaged in that form, well when I opened the package, there was a quote that said. (success is not measured by how far you get in life, but by the obstacles you overcome to get there) This quote has become one of the absolutes in my life ever since I first picked that small package up and a message I pass on to others.
