MEDICAL ASSISTANT

  • Perform clinical responsibilities, such as taking vital signs, and collecting lab specimens.
  • Collect the patient's history and document it in the EMR
  • Assist with Pap smears, vaginal cultures, colposcopy, and endometrial biopsy procedures.
  • Perform a non-stress test on obstetric patients.
  • Assist OB with ultrasounds.
  • Administer Rhogam injections to OB patients, and Depo injections for GYN patients (as directed by OBGYN).
  • Perform basic wound care.
  • Schedule Cesarean, induction, D&C, hysterectomy, endometrial ablation, and fibroid removal (affiliated with Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center).
  • Call and email patients with results.
  • Respond to patient messages and/or voicemails the same day.
  • Assist and educate patients on how to take their medications.
  • Process patient requests for medication refills, including contacting pharmacies to order prescription refills.
  • Determine the need for a physician's review of prescription refills.
  • Fill out lab slips, and send lab orders electronically for OB/GYN patients.
  • Acquire all results prior to, and during, the patient visit.
  • Maintain records and documents in the patient's record.
  • Complete disability forms for OB patients
  • Maintain timely patient flow, and room availability.
  • Clean and maintain exam rooms.
  • Order medical supplies, and stock the rooms.
  • Properly clean and disinfect instruments and equipment routinely.
  • Perform all tasks in a safe manner, in compliance with organizational safety policies, and according to applicable regulations; maintain a neat workstation and environment.
  • Participate in the patient checkout process: facilitating follow-up tests, referrals, and may participate in obtaining prior authorizations.
  • Obtains patient information, obtains consent (demographics, insurance, and third-party payers).
  • Schedules inpatient and outpatient admissions and procedures.
  • Receives and posts patient payments.
  • Manage providers, professionals, and schedule.
  • Perform basic diagnostic and procedural coding.
  • Perform general administrative duties as required, including scanning, filing, faxing, answering phones, and scheduling appointments.
