Our Organization is called Guardians of the Children Big Sioux Chapter. Our Chapter is based out of Sioux Falls. Currently there are 60 Chapters throughout the US and Canada. We work closely with children that have been or are being bullied or abused in anyway. Unfortunately there are certain criteria's that have to be in place for us to work with the children especially when it is a child of abuse. In this instance, there does have to be an active court case pending.
When we do take on a child we do what we call an adoption. This is not to be confused with a legal adoption. What this intale's is inviting the child into our Organization for protection. The child is presented a Bear and a Blanket filled with love and hugs from every member of our chapter here in Sioux Falls. This is a reminder to the child that we are here for their protection and support. From this point we reach out to this child several times a week to see how they are doing. If they are feeling scared for any reason we all go to them.
If a child has to go to court and face their abuser, we are all in that court room with that child for strength and security. The child can then focus on us instead of the perpetrator and feel safer while explaining what has happened to them. I a perpetrator is still out in society yet and the family isn't feeling safe in their home, we will stand outside the childs home for as long a need be so that the child feels safe.
We do work very closely with the child and the family until the child ages out at 18 yrs of age or the family and child decides they are now in a good place and no longer need our services. At this point we have fullfilled our mission.
