Work History

Research Assistant

Appalachian State University History Department
Boone, North Carolina
01.2025 - 05.2025

In my final semester of graduate school, I worked as a research assistant in the Appalachian State Department of History. This job required me to assist my assigned professor, Dr. Elizabeth Perego, with her research into the history of women's rights in Algeria. This job honed my research skills, as I was required to dive through extensive archives for the work, in addition to improving my time management skills and overall professionalism.

Teaching Assistant

Appalachian State University Department of History
Boone, North Carolina
08.2023 - 01.2025

In my first three semesters of graduate school, I worked as a teacher's assistant in the Department of History, while simultaneously working on my degree. This position required me to further hone skills relevant to customer interactions and customer service, as I was usually the intermediary between professors and students. In addition to my role as an intermediary, I also did the majority of grading and met regularly with the professors I worked for to discuss curriculum, content, and plans for class organization. This position additionally greatly improved my time management skills, as I learned to balance the demands of the work of being a TA with the educational demands of graduate school.

Campus Dining Assistant

Appalachian State University - Campus Dining
Boone, NC
09.2022 - 05.2023

As a campus dining assistant, I was required to work in a variety of different food and customer service positions in Roess Dining Hall, one of Appalachian State's two main campus dining halls. This gave me broad experience in food service, as I received training in customer interactions, food preparation, and sanitation.

Instructor

Ballantyne Kicks
Charlotte, NC
06.2017 - 08.2019

As an instructor, I taught martial arts to students ranging in age from four to their fifties and sixties. This gave me experience in providing quality service and a welcoming environment to people of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. Additionally, as an instructor, I was often the lead educator. As there would be multiple instructors present, this gave me leadership experience not only with students, but also with coworkers.

Accomplishments

A research paper I wrote was published in the Spring 2024 edition of the Tuckasegee Valley Historical Review, an historical journal published by Western Carolina University. Though this is my only publication so far, I intend to be further published as more calls for papers are made.

During graduate school, I took a leadership role in my cohort of graduate students by representing the history graduates in the student senate of the Graduate Student Government Association in the 2024-2025 school year. In addition, I was named the chair of the Elections Committee. As chair, I organized and coordinated the elections for the executive positions of the Graduate Student Government Association for the 2025-20256 school year, a task which required the use of my communication and organizational skills.

Affiliations

Outside of work, I enjoy reading and writing. While my professional career will one day see me writing nonfiction, in my free time I enjoy to write fiction.
