As you fall through the sky above Snohomish, outside of Seattle, you eyes pop, not from the winds that skydiving causes in your facial skin, but from the sheer glory of the 360-degree panoramic view that surrounds you. The very mountains I have spent winters skiing on, Mt. Rainier, Mt. Baker and the glorious Cascade Mountain Range. The colors of the blue/green waters I have had the pleasure of scuba diving near the San Juan Islands, truly its from mountain to sea, the most gorgeous place for all my hobbies is within the Pacific Northwest.
Cooking is a passion of mine, so much so, that I partnered in a Restaurant in Kirkland, WA on Lake Street, called "Mondo Shrimp/ Grill" back in 2001, learned to make the secret sauce and had numerous offers for that recipe, kept it a secret. Shouldn't have however sold it and it is now Isern Thai, I highly recommend! My email carries the name and has been the same for 20 years.
Since that time, in my spare time I have hosted hundreds of dinner parties, as well a hired caterer for beautiful secret suppers, ranging from the mountains, meadows, to the shores of the water's, museums, mansions yachts and jets spanning the globe.
I grew up in Hawaii and in Eastern Oregon, the daughter of a Agricultural Engineer, his early career was with the Hawaiian Sugar Planters Association, its where the seed was planted and I found my love for diving and the respect of the Oceans. We moved to Umatilla, OR when he was hired by AMFAC, (working across the river in Washington State) where he designed the pivot irrigation systems. What was once called CRPF (Columbia River Potato Farms) transformed into what is now "Chateau St Michelle and Columbia Vineyards". The soil conditions were equatorial to France.
Learning how to make wine, how to understand the entire tasting as well as doing blind tastings, all before the age of 14. How much can you possible learn about a specific wine, winery or wine region, you ask. A lot. Probably more than you would have ever thought possible. Think of playing "Trivial Pursuit", instead of the normal subjects, you are questioned on wine. I did earn my status, as my Father had me study a Wine Theory exam consisting of 70 questions about wine types and regions.
It is also where my work and study ethics were formed, and has served me well in all areas of my life and my experience's spanning the globe.
My Father traveled extensively once he created his own engineering firm, PACAM Engineering. Spanning Africa, the Middle East, Jamaica, South America, Europe and Canada. He was well known and respected internationally as well as locally with the farming community. He passed away this year 01/13/2022.
He was quite an impressive human being, and overcame the fact he was blind to leading and living an amazing life.
The natural athlete in me transitioned from surfing, snorkeling to skiing in Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort, Bluewood, Bend and Portland, my WInter job was ski hostess, which meant skiing as much as I could, while helping people on the slopes. Later in life fostered a wonderful friendship with Warren Miller on my many Mentors.
The natural writer in me started in elementary school in Hawaii, since that time I have ghost wrote a few books for clients who I am under NDA until they pass. Two have passed that I can mention, Warren Miller ( Lurching From One Near- Disaster to the Next) and A CEO John Goodman a dear friend of the Goodman Group out of MN, who I consulted for years on his projects for his assisted living communities, spanning Florida, OR, WA, MN, NYC, D.C. and AZ. " The Soulful CEO".
I have always had a deep empathy and strong compassion for the animal world, Marine life and humanity as a whole. My travels have shown me the need to see humans in humanity. I have been invited by Executive and Inside Directors of the various boards, to be an expert as well as respected person from the wider community's I have lived in, to sit as an outside director. Spanning OR, WA, AZ, CA, FL, MN, Abroad in Mexico, Peru and United Kingdom.
The role and responsibilities that I had a direct hand in, was vetting a hire with compensation matching a talented CEO/Executive Director, to run the day-to-day management of the organization. Once in place my role as a steward, involved but not limited to; fundraising, foresight, oversight and insight without any compensation. I liken it to a crows nest, scanning the horizon for signes of storms or rainbows to explore, perhaps with a pot of gold at the end.
I have passed the torch on to my adult children just how important the role of a board member and I will forever be an advocate for the nonprofit's mission.
