Responsible for coordinating efforts to maintain a safe work environment at the UTHealth Houston Behavioral Sciences Campus

• Ensures compliance with institutional, local, state, and federal environmental, health, and safety regulations, including emergency management, along with Joint Commission hospital accreditation requirements in the environment of care (safety, fire, hazardous materials and waste, and medical equipment), life safety, and emergency management (Emergency Operations Plan) is maintained.
• Serves as safety officer and chair of the Environment of Care and Emergency Committee
• Oversees development, implementation, and evaluation of the campus Joint Commission requirements/plans for the environment of care, life safety, emergency management (Emergency Operations Plan), and associated policies and procedures
• Oversees and/or conducts emergency drills, tabletop exercises, safety inspections, environmental tours, hazard surveillance, risk assessments, hazard vulnerability assessment, fire alarm inspections, portable fire extinguisher inspections, fire, and inventories of hazardous materials and waste and emergency supplies
• Coordinate response to emergencies and the activation of the incident command for the hospital
• Creates, monitors, and reports on performance improvement indicators for areas of responsibility
• Oversees investigations of property loss and non-clinical occupational injuries
• Communicates on-going metrics, areas of success, opportunities for improvement, and recommended plans of action to leadership
• Prepares and delivers reports and presentations, as needed, to communicate program effectiveness and meet necessary reporting requirements
• Develops and conducts training related to areas of responsibility and work closely with other departments in the campus to ensure a safe environment for staff, patients and visitors.

• Developed, implemented, monitored and controlled execution of institutional emergency plan
• Conducted planning for preparedness logistics, inspection processes, and documented activities
• Implemented safety inspection software program for regulatory compliance across the institution and oversaw the overall institution safety process in accordance with ISO14001 and OHSAS 18001 for emergency management and reviewed standard operating procedures (SOP)
• Developed hazard vulnerability analysis for onsite/offsite locations, conduct fire drills, and equipment testing
• Identified life-safety & environmental deficiencies, improved monitoring and corrective actions procedures
• Member of the institution’s safety committee
• Ensured all personnel (including non-English speaker’s personnel) were adequately trained on emergency response management, security concerns, and adequately trained on software tools

• Conducted / implemented two Industrial Engineering projects using Six-Sigma and Lean Principles Methodologies to create, manage and close work orders related to fire alarm, and sprinklers systems; and implemented a process for the institution beds to be stored and available when needed
• Participated in project engineering activities such as concept design, detail design, and peer reviews prior to implementation
• Conduct technical presentations to all level-management and work with minimal supervision.
