  • Independently perform the full instrument reprocessing cycle for El Camino Health’s surgical services, including decontamination, inspection, assembly, sterilization, and sterile storage

  • Validate cycles by ensuring all parameters have been met before release of sterile load
  • Conduct daily biological indicator and PCD testing on configured loads of wrapped/peel-packed instruments or when using the SteriCUBE system; document and validate BI/CI results to ensure safe load release, including implant loads
  • Perform Bowie‑Dick testing and physical monitoring to maintain sterilizer performance and troubleshoot corrective action as needed
  • Execute all manual and automated cleaning processes using enzymatic agents, ultrasonic washers, washer‑disinfectors, and lumen‑flushing tools in the decontamination area
  • Follow manufacturer IFU's to ensure proper cleaning, disassembly, lubrication, inspection, and sterilization parameters for all specialty devices
  • Manage and process vendor loaner instrumentation, coordinating closely with OR charge nurses, vendor representatives, and materials management
  • Prepare and deliver case carts based on surgeon preference cards and the daily OR schedule; support rapid turnovers and emergency cases
  • Maintain accurate documentation and full instrument traceability using SPM and El Camino Health’s internal tracking protocols
  • Support departmental quality assurance initiatives, including audits, corrective‑action reporting, and adherence to AORN, OSHA, and infection‑prevention guidelines
  • Mentor and train Sterile Processing Tech I staff and externs, reinforcing safe practices, workflow accuracy, and compliance standards
