Daniel Shea

I am a pre-medical student majoring in Nutrition Science with experience in pharmacy, EMS, volunteering, and physician shadowing. I am especially interested in pharmacology and the use of new treatments and compounds to help patients with conditions that are difficult to treat. This position is very meaningful to me because my grandfather struggled with PTSD after serving in the Vietnam War, and my brother is currently serving as a Marine, so I have a personal connection to military service and the impact trauma can have on veterans and their families. I am so excited by the opportunity to contribute to research focused on PTSD, trauma related disorders, and psychedelic assisted psychotherapy that I would be willing to volunteer for this role. Since my home institution, Farmingdale State College, has limited research opportunities, this role would give me valuable hands on research experience in a reaserch project I'm genuinely excited about. I would be extremely grateful for the chance to support this work and contribute to a project so meaningful.

Student President Leadership Council

Student Representative | Farmingdale State College

Dates: September 2025 – Present

• Serving as one of ten student representative's on the Student President Leadership Council, providing student-centered feedback, perspectives and projects / initiatives to the President of FSC
• Participate in council meetings focused on improving student experience, campus engagement, and communication between students and college leadership
• Represent Farmingdale State College at campus events involving college administrators, community members, dignitaries, and public officials
• Helped the development of an undergraduate academic research journal, designed to provide students with an opportunity to publish and showcase scholarly research, launching in the fall 2026 semester
• Created the initial outline for the proposed undergraduate academic research journal, including contributor guidelines, submission rules, review policies, and overall journal structure; expected to serve on the editorial board to help support the journal’s development.
• Assisted in discussions surrounding the creation of a college wide Common App-style platform to streamline student access to campus opportunities, programs, and applications

Dr. Henry M. Spinelli – Cosmetic, Craniofacial, and Oculoplastic Surgery — 875 Fifth Avenue, New York, NY 10065 (June 2025 – Present)

• Observed a variety of plastic surgery procedures in the operating room, including liposuction, facelifts, and fat transfers
• Gained exposure to both surgical techniques and patient safety protocols
• Engaged with the anesthesiologist to better understand preoperative and intraoperative care
• Learned about interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centered surgical planning

Dr. Mathew Chengot – Cardiology, Amityville Heart Center— 129 Broadway, Amityville, NY 11701 (October 2025 – Present)

• Shadowed during outpatient patient consultations, diagnostic evaluations, and follow-up visits
• Gained exposure to common cardiovascular conditions, including hypertension, arrhythmias, coronary artery disease, and heart failure
• Observed the use and interpretation of diagnostic tools such as EKGs, echocardiograms, stress testing, and patient lab results
• Learned how cardiologists develop treatment plans through patient history, physical examination, diagnostic findings, and risk factor assessments
