Primary Duties

Within the Engineering Unit, my duties include conducting plan reviews for:

  • Access and water supply for tract home developments, single-family dwellings, and commercial-use structures
  • Rural water supply
  • Tenant Improvements
  • New Construction
  • Fire sprinkler systems
  • Fire alarm systems
  • Hood and duct suppression systems
  • Photovoltaic Systems and supporting Energy Storage Systems
  • Change of Occupancy and Change of Use proposals


In addition to plan reviews, other Engineering Unit responsibilities include:

  • Performing fire flow tests, as well as creating the flow test reports, using multiple water purveyors' existing water maps to verify the most applicable hydrants for the report.
  • Facilitate consultations with developers, specialty contractors, and property owners.
  • Attend Planning meetings with Senior Staff, to discuss the high-priority, future projects that are being proposed in the district.


During my time with the Code Enforcement Unit my duties included:

  • Performing California State Fire Marshal-mandated annual inspections.
  • Wrote detailed inspection reports
  • Communicated with property owners, residents, and firefighters to prevent fires and ensure the life safety of all.
  • Conducted special events/temporary assemblies inspections with road closures, tents, and stages.


Other Duties

  • Update Engineering Unit applications and standards.
  • Create forms and standards for the Engineering Unit.
  • Permit Technician Support - the ability to intake plans, received payments, and distribute the plans in the correct queues.
  • Conduct meetings with bureau personnel, as needed.
  • Work with the Clerical Staff and the Permit Technicians to obtain an efficient front counter experience.
  • Worked with Public Education to create a user-friendly and applicable website for the bureau.
