Program Specialists One plan, organize, and administer recreational programs and arts and crafts activities for inmates in correctional institution.

Supervises the operation of the recreation and leisure time program. Solicits suggestions from the inmate population, plans and creates recreational activities based upon research, purchases the equipment and supplies needed for such programs, draws up necessary tournament rosters, etc., and assures that appropriate recreational activities take place in a timely fashion.

• Under general supervision, provides oversight of the daily operations of a State Correctional Facility’s Central Receiving, Laundry, Post Office or other similarly designated functional area. Responsible for the operation of the area.

• Observe and uphold all rules and regulations in the prison.
• Patrol the area and check the cells of the inmates.
• Maintain security by resolving inter-inmate conflicts, and avoiding disruptions, attacks, and escapes.
• Control mealtimes, restroom usage, work hours, and leisure pursuits.
• Screen visitors before leading them around the building.
• Aid in counselling and recovery efforts.
• Head counts, visitor logs, and scheduled activities were all used to keep track of inmates.

• Operational support as it pertains to performing various general/manual labor duties on frequent basis as assigned. Performance of these and other associated duties in a manner consistent with all applicable procedures, plans, policies, practices, environmental, health or safety rules or legal requirements.
• Perform various general/manual labor duties on frequent basis such as shoveling; general maintenance, very knowledgeable with tools, gathering and delivering supplies and materials; assisting other miners in performing their duties, etc.
• Required to operate mining equipment on an as needed basis.
• Conduct all work activities in compliance with Federal and State coal mining laws and Company policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
• Must be able to follow specific instructions while maintaining acceptable established standards of work performance and conduct, show necessary and consistent energy, as well as acceptable mental and physical dexterity, for the satisfactory completion of the essential duties as defined.
