Military Awards

  • The Army Commendation Medal, During his one year tour in Iraq, PV2 Zepeda served as a tank driver for C23. He was one of the only drivers in 'CHAOS' Company that drove a Mine Plow Tank, which requires greater skill due to limited visibility from the height of the plow, and judgment of clearance on the tank's sides due to the plow's width extending beyond the side skirts. On several occasions when IRONCLAW was unavailable to search for Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) along routes, PV2 Zepeda would drop his plow and use it in suspicious areas.
  • The Army Commendation Medal, PV2 Zepeda, while assigned to the 'WAR DOGS' platoon took part in a quick reaction force mission with 'BEAR' Company, 2-502 IN south of Baghdad along Route Trailblazer on 19 Feb 2006. Over a three day period, the QRF uncovered one of the largest stockpiles of weapon caches and bunkers of munitions since the initial push to Baghdad in 2003.
  • The Army Commendation Medal, Due to his superior skills, PV2 Zepeda drove his tank during hours of limited visibility to position it into a platoon blocking position during Operation REDSKINS on 28 April 2006, in the vicinity of Sadr Yousufiyah. At the completion of the operation 36 hours later, seven enemy insurgents were killed, eight were captured, and fifty suspected insurgents were detained.
  • The Army Commendation Medal, PV2 Zepeda also took part in several other Task Force Level operations in which his actions helped contribute to the destruction of dozens of IEDs, weapons caches found and destroyed, and enemy insurgents either captured or killed.
  • The Army Commendation Medal, Meritorious service while assigned as a tank driver. PV2 Zepeda's dedication to duty and commitment to excellence during combat operations in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 2005-2007 reflect great credit upon himself, the 'Regulars' Battalion, the 'Raider' Brigade, and the United States Army.
  • The Army Achievement Medal, For meritorious service while assigned as a tank driver, PFC Zepeda's performance and dedication to duty contributed greatly to the success of his unit. His actions reflect great credit upon himself, the 'Regulars' Battalion, and the United States Army.
  • Certificate of Achievement, For exceptionally dedicated and faithful service as a member of the United States Army against an armed opponent in the combat zone of Iraq during the War on Terrorism from: Dec 2005 to Dec 2006. For your loyalty, dedication, and service to our nation, you are hereby awarded.
