Philosophy

When her son was diagnosed with sensory processing disorders and learning disabilities, she did in-depth research about brain development from birth to adolescence and alternative ways to learn, incorporated sensory- and auditory-integrated approaches in his home-schooling, working to bridge the gap between the affected child’s ears and brain, and has used the resulting teaching methods with almost 100 youth riders. Hohman’s teaching philosophy centers on inclusivity, especially for struggling or under-resourced youth whom other instructors refused. She believes that working with horses encourages confidence, communication, self-reliance, self-discipline and courage, as well as the responsibility that all youth must develop for success.
