I have a home lab that I use to evaluate new devices and technologies. Using Proxmox Virtual Environment as the hypervisor, an iterative cluster of compute and storage nodes facilitating various scenarios and operations. Focus on micronizing network infrastructure and reducing power consumption while providing new solutions for network connectivity. Several SBC and SoC/mini-ITX USFF machines such as Intel NUCs, 1L HP and Lenovo workstations, RPi-3b clones and ESP32 WROOMs are currently in use. Several GL-Inet ‘pocket routers’ running OpenWRT firmware provide connectivity.
Recent adaptation to chenges in internet connectivity necessitated repurposing two of them (AR300 and AR150) as wlan repeaters of the community wifi.
This provides opportunities for understanding network bottlenecks, collisions and interference from BT and Zigbee on 802.11.
Another project of note is the use of Linux and Windows compute nodes to compose, perform and record using Reaper Studio 6 REAmote to connect and play over the ethernet LAN. Distributed Compute project.
