In order to sustain my livelihood during the Church start-up, I was employed at UGM, a Japanese owned and operated company that manufactured computer lead frames for the computer chip industry. I operated punch presses, and later promoted to shipping and receiving manager, Later I earned a position in the Quality Control department where we inspected and documented the quality of our products.
Enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1981 and honorably discharged 1985.

I was a part of two non-combat deployments to South Korea and Thailand.
My first stateside assignment was the 3-11th Infantry, 5th Infantry Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana. During this time I served in the Battalion S-3 Operations performing clerical work in Garrison and TOC (Tactical Operation Center) Operations during field exercises.
I was proud to be a part of the 3-11th Infantry commanded by the late LTC Herbert J. Lloyd. Our unit earned just about 200 EIB's (Expert Infantryman Badges) which was unofficially said to be an Army wide record. The S-3, in which I played an important role, was responsible for preparing the training and site management where we accomplished this extraordinary achievement.
My overseas duty assignment took me to the 1-19th Infantry, 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. I briefly served in the unit's S-3 doing clerical work in garrison and TOC operations during deployments and field exercises. The remainder of my tour, I served in a Rifle Company serving in various positions as an Infantryman.
