As a licensed phlebotomist with over 38 years of experience, I conduct venipuncture and capillary punctures following the departmental procedure manual. I perform patient identification and specimen handling with utmost care and accuracy. I label and prepare specimens correctly for testing or transportation to the appropriate laboratory facility. Completing requisitions per department standards is part of my job, executing specimen receipt functions using relevant computer systems. I am responsible for delivering specimens to internal testing areas and organizing and expediting the flow of orders and specimens within the laboratory. I assist in problem-solving related to patient draws, orders, and specimens while operating and maintaining departmental equipment, including but not limited to the paging system, pneumatic tube station, centrifuges, and printers. I answer calls and frequently communicate with various doctor offices to receive orders. My courteous and efficient communication skills consistently demonstrate positive customer service skills. I perform regular inventory checks, stock the work area with supplies, and assist in training new employees when requested. I follow regulatory requirements, corporate integrity standards, and all departmental policies and procedures, including universal precautions, isolation, and sharps/biohazard waste disposal.
