Dedicated educator with over 30 years experience who values making connections with students by maintaining a safe, well-managed and engaging classroom environment where empathy and excellence are modeled and encouraged.
Upon retiring from public school, I accepted a position as a 1st grade ELAR teacher at BCA, despite it being outside of my certification. It was a delightful experience. I had amazing support from the academic dean as I was learning to work with emerging readers. It was a successful year. The second year I served, I taught ELAR to 4th and 5th graders. This position was closer to my area of certification, which is ELAR and speech 6-12th grade.
I taught junior high ELAR for all but one year. The last year before retiring, I taught 9th grade English. I had a book published during this time period, and students helped me decide on a cover. I began an enrichment project for GT students called author fair, which continued for many years after I left the district.
My first 12 years of teaching took place here. I was chosen as Teacher of the Year one year at this district. I served as ELA department head toward the end of my stay in L.C.I.S.D.
I was selected Teacher of the Year during my stay at the first district I taught in. I am also a published author of a historical novel, Knights of Warsaw.
