  • 04/21/23, 7 hours, Observed a fractured Fibula repair surgery. Witnessed my first-ever surgery, an exhilarating experience. This experience deepened my aspiration to become an orthopedic surgeon. Alleviating patients' pain for a better quality of life was truly heartwarming.
  • , 04/28/23, 7 hours, Observed an ACL repair surgery, which left me astounded. Witnessed Dr. Owens extracting tendons from the hamstring to create a new ACL, a remarkable procedure. Fascinatingly, one end was attached in the thermal tunnel at the femur, while the other was attached at the fibula tunnel. The labrum repair was exceptionally intriguing. The suture technique was a captivating aspect of the procedure. Witnessed the improvement in the quality of life for two patients through the cleaning of sore wounds.
  • 05/05/23, 8 hours, Witnessed a variety of procedures, including: Bilateral carpal tunnel release, Trigger Finger release, ORIF ankle fracture with the placement of syndesmotic screws, Knee scope with medial collateral ligament (MCL) repair and patellar ligament complex advancement, Index finger trigger release, Trigger Finger release, Shoulder scope with rotator cuff repair, open distal clavicle excision, and possible biceps tenodesis, Left carpal tunnel release, Left ulnar nerve anterior transposition,
  • 05/19/23, 7 hours, Observed various surgeries, including: Knee Arthroscopy with Medial Collateral (MCL) Repair, Distal Radius Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF), Shoulder Arthroscopy with a possible Rotator Cuff Repair (RCR) or biceps tenodesis, Distal Radius Open Reduction and Internal Fixation (ORIF), Incision and Drainage (I&D) of a knee with patellar involvement, Toe amputation (4th toe), Incision and Drainage (I&D) of a foot.
  • 05/22/23, 7 hours, Observed various procedures, including: Right Total Knee Replacement, Right Total Hip Replacement, Right Total Hip Replacement (another case). This day of shadowing was eventful, with an unexpected incident. While Dr. Owens was irrigating the hip after sewing the capsule, fluids splashed into Jon Clarke's and my eyes. Following this, we underwent eye washing and blood cultures to ensure no disease transmission.

  • 12/1/21 and 12/1/22, 20 hours total, Richmond, Kentucky, Completed our annual Sigma Pi Philanthropy, Tree of Hope. We raise money over the course of a week each year via change wars, pie a pi, and bake sales. This money goes directly towards buying Christmas gifts for needy children at a daycare center here in Richmond. We wrap all the gifts along with supplying a Santa to disperse the gifts out to the children.
