  • Responsible for applying population-based methodologies to establish and report on priorities for adult and pediatric palliative care in Kansas, including development of a state plan for palliative care.
  • Implements strategies and aligns priorities with funder, state, and national objectives. This includes review of data on the status of palliative care in Kansas.
  • Consults with stakeholders to develop, implement and report on interventions to increase access, use and quality of palliative care across the life span.
  • Leads population-based activities to increase efficiencies and state capacity for adult and pediatric palliative care.
  • Builds partnerships to leverage and align resources across health service systems including, long-term care, hospital, hospice programs.
  • Develops appropriate grant applications for funding to efficiently address the need for palliative care as identified through surveillance and evaluation activities. Monitors and interprets grant objectives and policies of funder, state and national decision-makers to ensure consistency.
  • Develops state-level programs to educate consumers and professionals on palliative care and monitor adult/pediatric palliative care in Kansas (e.g., access, quality of care, unmet needs, successes).
  • Manages activities and provides support to the Palliative Care and Quality of Life Interdisciplinary Advisory Council. Prepares or directs the preparation and maintenance of records and reports including contributions by advisory council members and partners.
  • Participates in the program evaluation team and uses evaluation results for program planning, implementation, grants, reports and position papers that will be used by the advisory committee, state agencies, health systems, and legislators.
  • Provides technical assistance to partners and ensures that populations experiencing health disparities are the focus of activities.
  • Coordinates with partners to develop and implement consumer information and professional education programs on adult and pediatric palliative care.
  • Manages and implements health education related to palliative care and quality of life of adults and children with severe chronic illnesses which includes presentations, press releases and social media.
  • Responds to requests for program information as well as represents the agency at assigned state and national conferences, meetings and workgroups.
  • Serves as a member of the KDHE Disaster Response Team as needed to assure the agency's public and environmental health response is adequately staffed during and immediately following natural and/or manmade disasters, infectious disease outbreaks, and/or acts of terrorism.
