Samimi Orthopedic Group was an amazing experience working with exceptional orthopedic surgeons who dealt with replacements and arthroscopic surgeries. I was assigned as the medical assistant for the main surgeon Dr. Babak Samimi. I did administrative work such as calling patients regarding surgical questions, calling pharmacies for medication refill requests, and completing EDD/FMLA paperwork for patients undergoing surgery or fractures. I also had clinic days where I worked back-office with responsibilities such as:

• Reviewing patients' charts before bringing them back to make sure the provider had all necessary documents for proper evaluation
• Double-checked updated imagery for any fractures or replacement surgeries
• Set up casting and splint materials for the providers
• Set up cortisone injections and PRP trays that were administered by the surgeons
• Back office restocking and maintaining rooms sanitized daily

Transferred facility and was mainly a front office medical assistant with responsibilities such as

• Patient registration, answering phones, calling insurance and employers
• Closing duties like restocking office supplies, filing through faxes, completing medical record requests, and preparing for the opening shift
• During busy clinic days, I would float around and assist the back office by bringing back patients
• Processed drug and breath alcohol screenings for employers

I worked in the specialty department on certain days as a back-office medical assistant

• Brought patients back and did patient intake with vitals for the orthopedic and pain management specialist
• Quickly provided medical images and reports for the providers upon urgent requests
• Assisted providers on post-op patients by undressing wounds and surgical sites

I began as an MA intern completing clinical hours and was hired after 4 weeks as a front office medical assistant but would float to the back office. This clinic focused on workers comp injuries and performed drug screens for employers and physicals for new hires. My responsibilities were as follows:

• Back office clinical work such as injections, suture removal, setting up procedure rooms, and assisting providers during exams
• Trained to follow drug screening and breath alcohol procedures
• Basic vital signs and patient communication during tough situations
• Front office Administrative work such as scheduling patients, obtaining medical records and reports for providers
• Patient registration, multitasking on phones, and patient care

• Operated cash registers, scanners, and computers to itemize and total customer purchases; collect payments and make changes for cash transactions
• Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise for customers
• Greet customers and efficiently process transactions within busy, fast-paced retail environments
• Assist with store stocking, floor sets, and opening/closing procedures
