Summary

Experienced Juvenile Probation Officer working with at-risk youth, utilizing evidence-based programs and interventions. I have a strong understanding of case management and court procedures.

Because I have experience as a probation officer, I have skills in working with youth and families as an advocate. Meeting with youth to review their legal rights, and gather data in order to assess their needs and provide services and support. I have collaborated with parents, school administrators and other allied agencies to accomplish this.

I have experience in mentoring youth by teaching them how to develop the life skills necessary to make better choices. It was rewarding to see youth end up on a more productive path. And to hear later of their successes. This was especially rewarding for youth dealing with mental health or behavioral issues.

Work History

Juvenile Probation Officer

2nd District Juvenile Court
01.1997 - 01.2025
  • Juvenile Probation Officer for 28 years (1997-2025). Worked with youth (12-17 yrs) referred to the Juvenile Court on criminal charges. Meeting with youth and their parents/guardians to go over legal rights, do risk assessments, mental health assessments and process the charges either through a Non-Judicial or Judicial handling (setting matter for court). The caseload would consist of youth on formal probation and others that had fines or community service hours through a non-judicial agreement.
  • Wrote court reports and made recommendations to the judge. Served youth by helping them to learn accountability and to follow through with any court orders. Performed drug testing, DNA fingerprinting, visited youth in detention, as well as in their homes and schools.
  • Worked with community allied agencies (DCFS, Juvenile Justice Services, counselors, school administrators, program directors and police agencies in Davis and Weber counties). Staffed cases in multi-agency meetings for out of home placements (treatment programs to meet their needs and provide skills in making better choices). I have been subpoenaed for court to testify on youth. I also have experience running work crews for youth to do community service hours or restitution. Serving youth and families that are dealing with stressful events/situations has been both rewarding and challenging. I have skills in listening, assessing, educating, reporting and helping others through the legal process.
