Graduate Research Assistant, University of Alabama, 01/01/14, 12/01/15, Assisted Dr. Joshua Bittle in research pertaining to fuel characteristics incorporating a rainbow schlieren technique to take a closer look at the phase change of the fuel near the injector. A rainbow schlieren set up was incorporated to an existing combustion experiment. N-heptane was spayed at varying temperatures and pressures into a constant pressure flow vessel (CPFV). Two cameras, a Phantom camera, used to capture Mia-scattering images, and a Fastcam SA5, used to capture the rainbow schlieren images, captured the vapor and liquid phases. The purpose was to be able to study the vapor phase alongside the liquid phase of a fuel spray. This research is a key component to better understand parts of the puzzle in clean energy. Which will improve overall sustainability.
