Police Officer

City Of Thornton
Thornton, Colorado
02.1996 - 07.2002

My last year at the department, I was appointed the Senior Liaison Officer and a DARE Officer. As the Senior Liaison Officer, I was assigned all investigations and case filings into the District Court for crimes against as risk adults. I was tasked to develop a rapport with the senior citizen community in the city to help senior citizens report and prevent crimes against the at risk population. Through educational seminars, conducting inspections and visits to retirement communities, senior centers and nursing homes, I developed personal connections to the senior citizen community in order to foster a trust and help the population feel comfortable reporting crimes and suspicious activity. At the nursing homes and retirement communities, I partnered with the fire department and building inspectors to ensure that operations were in compliance with all laws and regulations to ensure the safety of the populations. I was also tasked with identifying problem areas with an at risk population and developing plans to deter further crimes in that area.

As a DARE Officer, I was assigned two schools in the city to schedule and teach Drug Abuse Resistance Education programs. I worked to develop a rapport and trust with the juveniles to aid them with decision making advice pertaining not only to drugs but to any information that they wished to share with me.

Prior to that assignment, I was assigned to the patrol division. Duties included performing general patrol and/or special law enforcement assignments in the protection of life and property and to enforce city, county and state laws and regulations; to perform a variety of activities and operations associated with crime detection, prevention and apprehension of suspects, transportation and processing of prisoners, preparing and maintaining records of prisoner bookings and prisoner status during booking and pre-trial process; traffic enforcement, crime/accident investigation and reporting, appearing and testifying in criminal cases for both city and county courts; and all other related law enforcement duties while strictly adhering to departmental policies. All written and verbal communications were to be of such quality that the information was relayed in precise, factual and easy to understand manner. I was consistently praised for my community relations and ability to interact and work with people regardless of the situation at hand.

Loss Prevention Agent

May D&F Now Operating As Macys
Denver, Colorado
01.1994 - 04.1996

As a loss prevention agent, I was responsible for building security as well as employee security. I was tasked at identifying, preventing and recovering merchandise loss caused by theft and fraud. I utilized data reports and CCTV equipment to identify possible leads. Leads were investigated and substantiated prior to apprehension of subject or subjects responsible for loss. I was required to prepare accurate and detailed reports documenting my apprehensions and recoveries. My job required preserving evidence, interacting with law enforcement as well as company management in security and criminal cases and testifying in court for those criminal cases on the company's behalf. I conducted employee training concerning safety and criminal situations. I monitored the stores' physical security and responded to alarm calls while on-call. I monitored the stores for unsafe and undesirable activities and situations. I was tasked to support company safety policies for compliance, identify areas of potential safety hazards and report issues of concern to appropriate supervisors immediately.
