An enthusiastic teacher, I began a career in education as a teacher of students with low skills, low self-esteem and learning challenges. Eager to contribute to team success through hard work, attention to detail, and keeping focus of student needs, led to success in the classroom with diverse populations, and later to a position as Special Education Coordinator for middle school students. Successful learning environments for students within and without the mainstream classroom stem from providing students academic, behavioral, and emotional supports in varying circumstances. Through applying the years of experience and leadership in building relationships, ensuring students needs are met, students successfully advanced with enhanced skills.
Previous and current experience includes instruction of students with a wide range of challenges, including: Autistic Spectrum Disorder, Behaviorally Challenged, Emotionally Disturbed, Hearing Impaired, Intellectually Handicapped, and the Specific Learning Disabled. By creating and following Individual Education Programs (IEPs), modifying curriculums, developing lesson plans tailored to the individual student and class strengths and needs, including differentiated learning styles, in a range of Least Restrictive Environments (LRE's), including one on one, resource room, inclusion, self-contained classrooms, and In-Home Instruction, with collaboration of teachers and administrators, students of diverse backgrounds from elementary through high school level were given the option and ability to complete required coursework needed for their advancement of grade levels and beyond - to successful integration in society.
Implemented lesson plans based on individual student needs.
