I've done dance since I was four and I started doing cheer as an extension of my skill junior year of high school. This up coming year I'm going to be in the top dance class my program has to offer. It's a very physical sport but an art form at the same time. It takes a lot of passion, not only do you have to keep the technique side of dance in your mind you have to sell the piece. You can't do a slow sad duet with a smile on your face, and you can't do a hip hop dance looking like you're about to cry. And people assume that's all in the face, but you have to show the emotion you're trying to portray with your body. Every dance is different in how you dance it. It's different from other sports where you learn one thing and just get good at that one thing, you learn something new everyday and have to be good at that new thing everyday. Also with cheer specifically you go from holding people in the air and throwing them up to dancing, jumping and yelling.
