Under the leadership of Deviyani Rao, I and 12 others identified thousands of previously unknown 2A peptides across both viruses and eukaryotes using an HMMER analysis. We further identified a unique class of 2A peptides, class B, whose activity is dependent on both the identity and register of amino acids within the sequence.
