Work History

Postdoctoral Fellow

Yale School Of Public Health
02.2022 - Current
  • Currently distilling metabolomics data from tsetse fly fat body and working on collaborative project that focuses on characterizing proteins, lipids, nucleic acids and metabolites in exosomes from parasite infected tsetse fly salivary gland.
  • Analyzed RNA-seq dataset from tsetse fly midguts infected with bacteria (Spiroplasm) or Trypanosoma brucei parasites and identified genes coding for proteins that can be used to block parasite transmission in the fly.
  • Generated five out of seven recombinant proteins of Trypanosoma brucei parasite to be used as potential antigen candidates for conjugate vaccines.
  • Designed multi-epitope peptide based vaccine against Trypanosoma brucei using immunoinformatics approaches.

Lecturer

Meru University Of Science And Technology
11.2019 - 01.2022
  • Wrote a proposal and attracted grant from Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene to evaluate molecular aspects of drug resistance in Trypanosoma congolense parasites from the field.
  • Tutored undergraduate and masters students molecular biology, biochemistry and proteomics related subjects.
  • Reviewed Molecular biology and Biochemistry curriculum for masters students.
  • Promoted collaboration among students through group projects and presentations, fostering teamwork and communication skills.
  • Established positive relationships with students and fellow educators, promoting open communication channels for enhanced collaboration.

Visiting Research Scholar

Yale School Of Public Health
08.2019 - 12.2019
  • Developed innovative sample collection method for Trypanosoma congolense parasites from tsetse mouth parts for more accurate and robust single cell RNA sequencing of these parasites.

Assistant Lecturer

Meru University Of Science And Technology
08.2013 - 11.2019
  • Tutored and assessed undergraduate students in molecular biology, biochemistry and prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene expression.
  • Crafted molecular biology and biochemistry curriculum for undergraduate students.
  • Designed teaching timetable for all the programs in the department

Visiting Graduate Student

Yale School Of Public Health
05.2015 - 06.2016
  • Executed and completed my PhD research project within schedule and analyzed all the data I generated for publication.
  • Identified, cloned and expressed recombinant protein that I tried as vaccine candidate against Trypanosoma congolense.
  • Developed strong communication and organization skills through working individually and in a group.
  • Demonstrated a high level of initiative and creativity while tackling difficult tasks.

Research Technician

International Livestock Research Institute, ILRI
09.2010 - 08.2013
  • Actively participated in lab meetings, sharing knowledge and expertise to foster a collaborative research atmosphere.
  • Mentored undergraduate students in their independent research projects while fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Optimized and troubleshoot laboratory protocols for protein extraction, recombinant protein expression and purification, ELISA, latex agglutination, flow cytometry and PCR.
