Relevant Research Experience

Capstone Thesis

  • Argued for the explicit inclusion of mobility-disabled individuals in environmental justice, examining how disability status intersects with race, ethnicity, and income to influence exposure to environmental harm. With my brother, a paraplegic wheelchair user, as part of my lived experience, I explored the systemic exclusion of disabled individuals through case studies like the dismantling of T.H. Rogers' PSI program. Conducted interviews with disabled residents, analyzed relevant legislative histories, and compiled visual and written data. Findings demonstrated the disproportionate impact of environmental hazards and climate change on people with disabilities, particularly during natural disasters. Critiqued "eco-ableism" within environmental activism and policy, advocating for universal design, more inclusive planning, and accessible solutions in both activism and community spaces.
