Gearbox Rotorhead Mechanic - Experimental

-Generally lead and instruct one to three helpers and occasionally as work flow demands, a group numbering seldom over 5.

-Assign and check work of group and instruct employees in proper work methods and use of equipment.

-Work from complicated blueprints, assembly drawings, sketches, verbal instructions,

DMWR, NAVAIR manual, etc.

-Plan and perform diversified assembly, modification, rework and repair operations on rotor head, gearbox and other transmission system components for all production and experimental aircraft models.

-Devise or adapt complicated methods and tooling required on jobs for which work methods and tooling are not available.

-Perform a variety of modification and repair operations on complex machined parts such as filing, lapping and scraping of flat and curved surfaces, reaming and facing bushing, burnishing bearings, shrink fitting mating parts, etc.

-Make highly accurate alignments and mate parts working to close tolerances.

-Work closely with Engineering personnel on the research and development of new rotor heads,

transmissions and related components and perform initial assembly or prototype units.

-Work with manufacturing Engineering to create customized A.O.S to perform repairs and specific

O.R.I. (Overhaul repair Instructions) to rework dynamic components.

-Assist Engineering in the resolution of production problems and checkout and repair dynamic

components on aircraft in hangars, on flight line and at test and whirl stands.

-Perform troubleshooting, modifications and resolve malfunctions on aircraft in hangars and on

flight line and on occasion in field.

-Modify existing units to accept changes in propulsion system.

-Troubleshoot flow and leakage problems.

-Work with Government Furnished Equipment.

-Create and process 2410 and log cards for time controlled components to calculate hours on part

for determination of retirement or use.
