I worked as a Barn Tech Assistant and a Vet Tech Assistant. Originally, I worked with small and large animals but decided to focus on large animals including horses, donkeys, sheep, goats, and occasionally longhorns. The job required me to be up very early most weekends to tend to the animals in the clinic's barn and keep stalls and pens clean, promoting a healthy space for animals to heal. I would care for four or more horses or other large animals at a time. I would frequently interact with clients in a professional and courteous manner to inform them of their pet's condition and recovery processes.
Primary duties included:
• Working with small and large animals
• Feeding
• Administering vaccines
• Routine checkups
• Medical charting
• Understanding, organizing, and administering medications
• Doing blood work
• Suture removal and more
After being hired as a host, I was promoted to assist with bussing and food running. This fast-paced work environment was in a busy lakeside restaurant. I was originally hired at $7.25 per hour and received a raise after my first month to $10 per hour because of my accountability and responsible work habits.
Primary duties included:
• Deliver orders in a timely and accurate manner
• Make desserts based on specific recipes
• Completed daily side work and closing duties
• Keep the host stand and food area clean and tidy
• Train new hosts and runners throughout the summer
• Took reservations and to-go orders by phone, answered customer questions, and informed of accurate wait times.
